Luigi Pericle, Uranian Golem II (Golem Uraniano II), Matri Dei d.d.d, 1964, Mixed technique on canvas, 55 x 34 cm | Courtesy of Archivio Luigi Pericle and Fondazione Querini Stampalia

The 50 works on display, including paintings on canvas and on masonite, chines on paper from the Sixties and Seventies, excerpts, autograph notes, analysis exercises and diary pages, describe the unclassifiable figure of Luigi Pericle (Basel 1916 - Ascona 2001 ) through his imaginary multi-faceted, populated by hypnotic creatures, visionary scenarios, alien worlds, star-gates wide open on unknown mechanical civilizations. A well-rounded painter, illustrator, writer and intellectual, Luigi Pericle, fascinated by theosophy and esoteric doctrines, participated personally in the cultural debate that was determined during these twentieth century by these tendencies, devoting himself to an untiring work of reflection on language of painting and on the intuitive sign as a manifestation of inner drives and a visionary inquiry through the most hidden layers of consciousness.
