Il Limite. Video-Installation by Elisabetta Di Sopra

Il Limite. Video-Installazione di Elisabetta Di Sopra, Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Venezia

Three monitors show the moving nude body of a model in a drawing room at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice. Thanks to the proximity of the living figure to the immobility of the works of the past, a new vitality arises animating the imagination and emotions of the observers. The details of the model's body, her light movements amidst stacked furniture, a plaster statue, drawings and in the background a skeleton for the study of anatomy, reveal a beauty transformed by time, the pose is brief, the students absent as, beyond the edge of the screen the work is completed by the gaze of visitors to the Archaeological Museum, once the Statuary of the Serenissima, now "inhabited" by many sculptures that show the hand of Venetian artists, from Tiziano Aspetti to Alessandro Vittoria, from Tullio Lombardo to Antonio Canova, who intervened with restorations and reconstructions to give life to fragmentary works, reinterpreting subjects, adapting them to the imagination of collectors, creating ever new connections between present and past.
