Gayle Chong Kwan. Waste Archipelago

Gayle Chong Kwan, Crysanthi South Africa 2019, Serie Oil Spill Islands, Collage, 2021

The Alberta Pane Gallery presents in Venice new photographic works, on paper and installations by Gayle Chong Kwan (London, 1973), created starting from food waste and other organic elements, and capable of engaging in osmotic dialogues in the exhibition space. Fragments, peels and scraps, collages and photographs are the starting point of an artistic refession that ranges from colonial expansion, to the exploitation of natural resources and environmental issues in a broad sense. Winner of the Sustainable Art Prize 2019, Gayle Chong Kwan has collaborated for more than a year with students and academics of the Ca 'Foscari University of Venice, in order to explore theories, concepts and perspectives on these issues, to then come to develop a project put waste at the center of his own reflection, understood as a virtuous material that permeates daily life.
