Côte d’Ivoire Pavilion – 59th International Art Exhibition | The Dreams of a Story

Aboudia, La Famille, 2021, Mixed technique, 150 × 150 cm

Aboudia, Armand Boua, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Aron Demetz, Laetitia Ky, Yeanzi are the names of the six artists representing the Ivory Coast at the 59th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in the Pavilion hosted at the Magazzino del Sale 3. With the High Patronage of the Première Dame of the Côte d'Ivoire, presented by Henri Koffissé N'koumo and curated by Alessandro Romanini and Massimo Scaringella, the collective intends to bring to light memories and dreams of a destiny to be built for a common future that makes the role recognized essential of contemporary African culture in the world. Assuming that in the dream images, myths and echoes of oral or written narratives are naturally recreated, of facts descended from one's own experience, in particular from childhood, as well as sublimations of one's environment, the artworks/dreams on display tell stories that, in Africa, often carry the value of spontaneous creation when you want to interpret and represent the socio-economic realities of the individual and the community. A dreamlike reality that generates through the artistic practice a concept very present in the creativity of the Ivorian artists, in particular in the ability of the new generations to merge through art, traditions and innovations, memories and dreams of a destiny to be built in the field of contemporary art, considered precisely the real intersection between dream and history.
