Antarctic Resolution

Antarctic Resolution, Giardini della Biennale, Venezia I Courtesy of UNLESS ©️ Delfino Sisto Legnani

On the eve of the 200th anniversary of the first sighting of Antarctica, Giulia Foscari / UNLESS invited over 200 specialists in various disciplines, from architecture to biology, from chemistry to climate science, from engineering to geography and history, from right to literature, from logistics to medicine and physics, political science, sociology, technology and the visual arts - to join forces to conduct as comprehensive interdisciplinary research on Antarctica as possible and unravel the complexity of the natural and political forces at work on its 26 quadrillion tons of ice. Learning from the Antarctic spirit of cooperation, in which the survival instinct unites people of divergent cultures and specializations, UNLESS proposes, with Antarctic Resolution, to start building a platform where citizens from all over the world can engage in a concerted effort and unanimous to plan the future of Antarctica and, in turn, of Planet Earth. The Antarctic Resolution research, which is a prelude to a printed publication edited by Giulia Foscari / UNLESS, is exhibited for the first time at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, How will we live together?, Curated by Hashim Sarkis, dean of the School of Architecture and Planning of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the Central Pavilion of the Giardini della Biennale, together with the very unique "glasses" worn by Captain Scott during his crossing of Antarctica, and the Antarctic Suit, a technologically advanced suit conceived by D-Air Lab to enable maximum human survival in the white desert.
